In the Hideout

Watercolor, 11"x14", on 140-lb. paper.

Having painted a series of thick-acrylic paintings, I had a weird feeling in the process of creating this watercolor painting. Needless to say, the techniques are very different. For thick impasto painting, I gain texture and a pseudo three-dimension look that could add to the vitality of the painting. However, I also give up certain degree of subtlety and randomness that watercolor painting like this one can provide. How to achieve the balance between the two? I have no idea at least for now. I think I will do what every artist does -- constantly exploring new technique, new idea, new way of painting and have a lot of fun in the process!

Microscopic World - Abstract

Mixed Media, 12"x12", on 1-3/4" deep cradled wood board.
This abstract work was created using successive layers of thin gesso on a black background. I used only subdued colors so that the texture created by gesso won't be over-ridden. I am quite excited about the result.
